Relation between panoramic mandibular index and disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis

Abstract Background DEXA scan could be unavailable at some health centers, and radiologic examination of the mandible oral cavity is considered more commonly used test that can predict, diagnose, or even follow-up on any defect in bone mineralization. The aim this study was to elucidate ability panoramic radiograph detect osteoporosis rheumatoid arthritis patients correlate mandibular index with RA disease activity severity parameters. Results sensitivity for diagnosis 96% group Ι (primary OP) 70% ΙΙ (RA patients). positive predictive value PMI 67% 55% ΙΙ. negative 34% 46% cutoff OP ≤ 0.31 0.17 In I, there were significant correlations between patient’s ages, weights, T score L1-4, femoral neck, forearm while insignificant patients’ heights. ΙΙ, PMI, durations, SHARP score, ESR, RF, forearm, heights, DAS, CRP. Conclusions Panoramic radiography have a potential usability regardless displaying correlation activity.
